Panama Canal Cruise
Complete
We always thought it would be cool to cruise through the Panama Canal so we booked a 22 day trip on the Seabourn Quest from Miami to Santiago, Chile. Actually to San Antonio, Chile which is the port presently used for cruise ships. Valparaiso used to be the cruise ship port but something happened a few years back and, as we understand it, cruise ships no longer stop there. Too bad for Valparaiso. Too bad for passengers as well because Valparaiso is a much nicer city.
The main page picture is the bow of the Seabourn Quest just getting ready to exit one of the locks of the Panama Canal.
It took pretty much the full day to get from the Atlantic side to the Pacific side.
We spent a few days in Miami before the cruise just to check it out. We stayed right downtown in the touristy part and were impressed with the city. There are so many high rises and the skyline seen from the water is very beautiful.
Here's a link to a page with some shots from Miami.
After Miami we had three "sea days"...these are just days where you just cruise across the sea. We don't like them but a lot of people do. Go figure. But the grim fact remains if you're going from Miami to Panama across the sea on a ship it's going to take a few days.
A few shots from the Seabourn Quest here.
On the fourth day after leaving Miami we finally reached the Panama Canal.
