The pictures will look much better than on a phone.
The Turtle Inn, is another beach resort and it's in Placencia which is a much nicer little town that San Pedro where we started this trip at the Victoria House Resort. The weather was better and that helped too.
The main page picture is looking down our beach. It was a great beach and I'm sure in calmer and warmer weather it would be well used but as it was there were only a few people in the water. The water was generally chopped up by the wind and there was a lot of seaweed on the sand.
This resort is owned by movie director Francis Ford Coppola and his family. He has a personal cottage on site that gets rented out when he's not visiting. One of the staff told us he and family visited over Christmas and his cottage was rented out so he just used a regular cabin like ours. I'm sure his personal cottage is a bit more luxurious. Apparently he and family own another jungle resort in Belize and two more jungle resorts in nearby Guatemala.
Below was our cottage. Very rustic but all we needed - except air conditioning and a TV. Luckily there was a nice breeze coming from the ocean but it meant leaving the double doors between the living area and the porch open.
A comfortable bed.
and couch.
A screened in porch.
There was a bird living in our cottage and the little f$$#er was shitting on the floor occasionally. I reported it to the front desk but they couldn't find it. Luckily it didn't shit on us in the bed or any of our stuff.
A decent bathroom except they wanted you to wipe your ass and then put the paper in the basket next to the toilet - fuck that - if I want to live "third world" style I'll vacation in the the outback of Somalia!
The restaurant was pretty decent and prices were reasonable.
The resort had a couple pools – one general pool shown below. And one adults only pool. We never went in either - they weren't heated and the air really wasn't warm enough to tempt one to go in.
I guess this is the reason for calling it Turtle Inn.
We had a full moon while we were there and some clouds - it always makes for a great night shot.
One of our excursions was to a place called Monkey River.
Just a funky place where locals live.
Note the satellite dish.
Basically just cruising around looking for wildlife. A great blue (or black...don't remember) heron below.
Some other kind of bird ... I can't recall what it its.
A crocodile.
And another one. I think they open their mouth like that to regulate their body temperature.
Another fun thing we did was a late afternoon cruise on a small boat with another couple we'd met on the Monkey Bay trip. A bottle of wine and some ors-doovers was included in the price.
I got this great sunset shot near the end of the trip.
Another fun thing was a trip to Cockscomb Basin wildlife Sanctuary. This is a Jaguar preserve and hardly no one who has visited this place has ever seen a Jaguar. They are very skittish kitties.
Terri was lucky enough to see one though.
We did a hike up to a waterfall.
Check out the size of the palm. Freakin' massive.
Another fun thing we did at the Cockscomb Reserve was tubing down a river. It wasn't a long tube ride but kinda fun.
A wee video.
Our last day at Turtle Inn we had a driver take us to the next resort - The Lodge At Chaa Creek. We stopped at a zipline place along the way to do some zip lining.
Here we are the the start.
At one of the platforms.
Frank coming down the line. I usually went first and then Terri. I guess she figured if I didn't get killed it would be okay for her to follow.
Here's a wee video of Terri coming down the line.
What follows are a couple short videos that were taken by on of our guides. I gave him the camera and he shot it.
That's gonna finish it for Turtle Inn.
