Montreal

This is a statue of Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve the founder of Montreal.

Montreal was founded in 1642 but had been visited much earlier by Jacques Cartier in 1535 and Samuel de Champlain about 70 years later.

There is much history in Montreal.

We stayed in what's referred to as Old Montreal - down by the waterfront. Narrow streets, old buildings - very European.

Terri, as usual, got us a nice hotel room.

We found everyone everyone we encountered in Montreal to be very friendly and helpful. Hopefully the animosity that existed in the past between Western Canada and Quebec has vanished.

A couple shots of downtown Montreal from Mount Royal area.

A couple funky old buildings in Montreal.

This is the City Hall.

And this is something else.

The interior of Notre Dame Cathedral

Saint Joseph's Oratory

What is significant about this place is that the dome is the third largest of its kind in the entire world. Only St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace in the Ivory Coast in Africa are bigger.

Some interior shots.

After visiting the Oratory it's time to board our ship - the Seabourn Quest.
