Kaohsiung

Kaohsiung is our first stop after Hong Kong. The previous day was a sea day so we're all hung over and over-fed and ready to get off the ship.

Kaohsiung is a city in the island country of Taiwan. It's in the very far south and it's a major port. The population is around 3 million.

We didn't see much of the city as we purchased an excursion from Seabourn that turned into a bus ride to see some mildly interesting stuff and then a bus ride back to the ship. This is what happens more times than not - the excursions are less than exciting. We'll learn one of these days.

The first stop is at a modern sports facility.

It really is an interesting design - it's in the shape of a question mark. Kind of hard to see from these pictures. And the roof is covered with solar cells.

This is a shot I snagged from the internet. Looks like it was taken during construction.

These local kids were pretty happy to see a bunch of (old) white devils.

Later we go to a temple (or was it a shrine?) After seeing so many you'd think I'd know the difference.

I think it's a temple - this is just the first of many we will see on this trip. The vendors are set up outside selling cheap crap.

A close up of the thing on the roof.

An interior shot. Not sure who this god is or what he's responsible for - a pretty scary looking god though.

Kaoh008

Another piece of the temple. They really do decorate them well.

Mass transit. Screw the helmets..it's the air that's harmful!

And back on the ship later in the day they finally have a sail away party. Champagne and caviar...woo hoo !!! I don't know how much caviar they go through on this ship on a normal voyage but it must be a phenomenal amount. Everyone seems to love it except us. Are we weird? Is eating raw fish eggs normal and it's we who are abnormal?

Terri is starting to develop a taste for Champagne though. I can drink a glass or two but I think it's just like ginger ale. The gay crowd on this ship seem to love it tho'. Probably loosens up their inhibitions and other things.

That's pretty much it for Koahsiung.
