Jordan

The second leg of our middle eastern trip was in Jordan. This was not a separate trip but a continuation of our trip in Egypt.

Jordan is a country smack dab in the middle of a lot of trouble spots: Syria to the North, Iraq to the East, Israel to the West - but you don't really hear much about bad stuff going on there.  It seemed like a safe bet to go there.

We flew from Cairo to Amman. Another early morning and arrived noonish to our hotel.

The scenery between Cairo and Amman is pretty barren.

As soon as we got to our hotel I had a mission: I had just about used up all the rum I'd brought from Canada and needed to get more. Luckily, unlike Egypt,  Amman has lots of liquor stores. Our guide told us that Muslims could not own liquor stores in Jordan but Christians could. He also told us that Muslims are the Christian's biggest customers.

We had two group activities today after lunch: A visit to the Royal Auto Museum and then a group supper at a famous, traditional restaurant.

The Royal Auto Museum houses many of the cars and other vehicles owned by the kings of Jordan since 1916. There have been three kings during that period.  Below are a few of the pictures I took.  Here is a link to many more.

This must be one of the very first cars ever built.

A wooden motorcycle.

A couple Ferraris.

A Lamborghini motorcycle.

At the evening meal they just kept bringing more and more food. It was all very good and all local cuisine. There was no way even 1/2 of it got eaten. That red gob just above the plate of pickles and olives was raw meat. I've seen it in restaurants called Steak Tartar but they just called it raw meat.  I skipped it.

Our room was decent.

A nice view of a construction project across the street.

A nice large and modern bathroom.

An office area.
