Today (Feb 1st) we hiked from La Quinta Cove area to Lake Cahuilla (Ka-we-ya). The iPone app MapMyHike said it was 11 kilometers. I don't think it was that far but it was a good hike. It was fairly easy compared to the recent hikes but there was a bit of elevation to get our hearts pumping.
This is a shot looking back toward La Quinta and the parking lot.
Terri on the trail. She usually leads.
There are lots of these trees along the way. They have HUGE SHARP thorns. See pic following. You wouldn't want to stumble into one in a drunken stupor.
Even out in the desert people somehow manage to f$%# things up by dumping trash.
We're at the high point of our hike. We're going to go down toward the lake now.
So we're walking aong thinking we're way out in the desert and look what we come across...a freaking golf course!
So that's Lake Cahuilla in the distance. We didn't go any farther because we've been here before - from the other side that you can drive to. It's not much of a lake in reality.
There must be more water in this desert because we saw a lot more colour on the plants.
It wasn't a screaming hot day but we still packed lots of water, the first aid kit, the snake bit kit etc, etc. We neeed a sherpa.
The trip.
