We're done with Pau today. Not a bad place but we probably wouldn't go back. EVER. It was a good central place from which to make day trips. The hotel was pretty good except for food service and when I told the general manager I was going to write a negative Trip Advisor review I thought he was going to attack me or at least evict us from our room.
"Who are you to talk to me that way" he says..."I fart in your general direction" I'm thinking. He probably wouldn't have got it.
The town of Pau was not a bad place ... just hard to get something to eat but strangely enough I had two real good meals here. This is one of them...a french version of a cob salad. They've added fromage bleu and the bacon is not chopped up but it was very tasty.
So we are now in Perigeaux which is a funky little town. We are here for three nights and it is, again, just a base for our day trips. At first glance though it is a nicer city than Pau and we shouldn't have as much trouble getting fed here. The room is smaller than previous but it us still pretty good.
Here's the view:
We came here on a couple of freeways. They charge a toll for driving on most freeways and it cost about $50.00 to get here. Very fast though.
We arrived in time for lunch and I had a Norwegien salad. That's smoked salmon on top of the rabbit food.
And Terri had the Vegetable salad:
We found this pet store with a bunch of Shit Shoes for sale. No idea what they were asking for them.
They're so cute..I'm surprised there were so many for sale.
So we went walking around town and down the river path.
We found this old house. No idea why it was built that way. There was a plaque that, I think, told about it but we (stupid people that we are) could not read it as it was en Francais. Really should have paid more attention in high school I guess.
A shot of the church from the river path.
A garbage can from the hotel in which I am washing my underwear. The hotel wants about 3 Euro to wash a pair of gaunch. That's about 1-1/2 times what I paid for them. I was ready just to leave them here but then some poor French room cleaning lady would have to deal with them. Q'est que didley quack!!!
From the river walk.
We saw many nice gardens along the river.
And many nice bridges.
So we went out for dinner and in the Rick Steeves tradition we wandered down back alleys until we were mostly lost! We saw this set of stairs that looked promising until we got to them and looked up.
So we kept going forward and came across this impediment:
Time to forget the Rick Steeves sh^t and get back to the main street.
My underwear drying nicely in the hotel room.
Christ! I hate them. I really wanted to leave them here in France. Perhaps I could sell them to somebody to wear on his head or maybe a terrorist to cover his face...why did I even wash them then? Vive la Jihaaaaaaad
View from our room at night. Très belle
Bon soir!
