Brisbane
Brisbane was the first Australian city that actually felt like a city.
We didn't purchase a paid excursion in Sydney because we wanted to meet up with a friend we'd met on our Antarctic trip a year before.
There is a cruise ship port right in the middle of the city and our friend said he lived about a five minute walk and downtown was very close also. As it turns out though an Australian cruise line had the port the day we arrived so we had to dock many miles out of town an the industrial port. No big deal - it just meant we had to take the bus in - supplied by Silversea of course.
The shot below shows downtown from our docked location.
Some of the lovely views from our cabin at the industrial port.
When we got to town we went for a long walk to burn off all the calories from the day before and we spotted this quite large ferris wheel across the river.
So we gave it a try and got some good shots of the city from our car.
Our friend Dr. William Von Braun. An arrogant bugger but not a bad guy overall. We had to take an Uber over to his place from the ferris wheel but it was very cheap to go quite a long distance. I wish we would get Uber in BC but the province is so backward in a lot of respects.
Doc. Von Braun may be related to Werner von Braun - he would neither deny it nor confirm it. We drank a bunch of Heineken which he remembered I liked from the Antarctic cruise.
Docko is a weight loss surgeon and according to him it's a growing business in Australia. Like everywhere else I guess.
Here's a link to his practice and it's amazing the amount of expensive options people have to lose weight when they could just not eat so much for free.
After visit Docko we just went back to the ship.
That's it for Brisbane.
