Aqaba

Aqaba was our next stop after Wadi Rum. We had a late start leaving Wadi Rum and we arrived before our hotel rooms were ready so we just toured around in the bus.  We got just about to the Saudi Arabian border. Aqaba is located at the very south end of Jordan on a gulf that is part of the Red Sea.

Anyway, it was a couple of dull days.  The second day we went snorkelling and it was way better than I was expecting. I didn't take my underwater camera so there are no pics.

The main picture on this page is a view at night (obviously) is Eilat, Israel taken from our room.

Below a daytime view from our room.

We stayed at a Kempinski hotel and this was the sign on the front entrance.

For health and safety reasons!  Right!

I had bought a bottle of rum, a bottle of wine (for Terri) and four Heineken beer for the snorkelling trip tomorrow. The guy checking luggage and packages at the front door tried to take my booze away...he almost lost his life! Not really...I just grabbed my bag back him and raced to the elevator.  He yells "what room are you in?". Ya, right - I'm going to tell you. Idiot!!

Some others had the same thing happen and their liquor as seized and impounded but our guide was able to get it released right away.

And below is  a good example of why they want you only buy your liquor from the hotel.  Three draft beer for $18 Jordanian dollars.  That's $33.60 CAD...$11.00 each...f^@$ing insane.  We did end up buying a couple at the pool bar and it wasn't bad for home grown draft but give me a break!!!  Egypt definitely had cheaper beer that was just as good.

Some shots of our rom which was quite nice.

A decent poop-a-torium.

This was the type of boat we went snorkelling with.  It had a glass bottom so those who didn't snorkel could still see some of the fish below.

A few of the group..a truly mugly bunch.

The two at the end of the boat were a mother / daughter pair.  Almost as weird as the two from Saskatoon.

A La Farge concrete plane..we used to do control system work for La Farge when we were in business.

Just a couple random shots.

Lots of tourist boats.

And one that has seen better days.

A sunset shot looking over the Red Sea.

Done.
