Antarctica!
In the summer of (probably) 2014 or maybe even 2013 I was reading the Calgary Herald one Saturday afternoon. There was an article in the travel section about an cruise line company that was planning to take travelers to Antarctica.
This was going to be a brand new destination for the company which was called Seabourn. I'd never in my life thought that I'd like to go to Antarctica. The idea seemed preposterous but here I was reading that it was possible. And in great style and comfort!
The trip was described in such fantastic detail (this isn't the article but very close.) that I immediately thought that we should go. The problem was that Terri and I had never done an ocean cruise and the thought of spending 21 days with 400 strangers didn't appeal to us at all. So we put the idea on the back-burner.
The description of the Seabourn ships stayed in my mind though. So later that year we decided to to try a Seabourn cruise of a shorter duration and also one one of their smaller ships - The Seabourn Legend. It was a cruise over Christmas and New Years in the Caribbean. The Legend only carried 220 passengers so it seemed like a good way to get our feet wet.
Needless to say we loved it. We have just finished our sixth Seabourn cruise and this one was to Antarctica. What a fantastic place!
The cruise originated in Santiago, Chile and ended in Buenos Aires, Argentina so we decided, as long as we were going to be in those countries, and never having been in either of them before, that we would spend a week or so in Chile at the start and Argentina at the end. I have to say that both seem to be very fines countries with very fine people. At least the ones we met.
All feedback appreciated!
