Towns We Visited

We visited a few towns on this cruise and the towns were certainly not the highlight of the trip although some were mildly interesting.

Sitka was the starting point and it was mostly dealt with on the start page of this blog.

Juneau was the mid point of the cruise and we stopped there to let some people off and add some new people.

Juneau is a major stop for all the ships that sail up and down the inside passage. On the day that we were there there were three other large ships in port. Juneau is basically a huge tourist trap.

Another UnCruise ship was docked beside our ship. The Wilderness Adventurer. I'm sure this is an even worse garbage scow than our ship.

Here's a link that shows the boat layout. They put 60 passengers on this boat - it must be even more crowded than our ship.

Not much to do in Juneau for a whole day. Really just a wasted day but what can you do.  They did have a cable lift that took us up to the top of a nearby mountain and the following shots are from up there.

There was a life size statue of a humpback whale breaching that was kind of cool.

Petersburg was not on the original list of places to stop but the device on the ship that turns saltwater into drinking water stopped working and so we had to stop here and fill up the tank with water.  Kind of a shit-hole town.

There is  a plaque pretty much dead centre in the shot below.

Apparently the poor Japanese man who built this place was sent to a World War II internment camp for the unthinkable crime of being Japanese.

Wrangel was a planned stop because it was July 4th and yankees celebrate their independence on that day. Another wasted day in my opinion.

So they have a crappy patrade and look at the clowns who lead it - bikers!

Anyway, we didn't watch much of the parade and just bummed around town for a bit.

A hike up a local hill was fun. This was covered under the HIKES page I think.

I thought this guy's lawn signs we're interesting. Who do you think he voted for?

Another interesting sign I saw on a house.  At least this guy has a sense of humour.

Now the next to shots look identical - and in fact they are except for the asking price of the boat. They were posted at two different locations in the town. Can you imagine paying the high price and then seeing you could have bought it for $20K less?

Wrangle from the ship.

Ketchikan was the end of the trip and we went straight to the airport and flew away.
